ABLE W.E.A.T.

W.E.A.T. is a 14-week classroom and field-based program offering in-depth instruction in green building concepts, energy auditing, thermal imaging, renewable energies, green roof technologies, principles of weatherization, and green terminology. Students have the option of an Energy Auditor track or a Green Office Administration track.

Program Description

  • Preparation for the Building Products Institute (BPI) Energy Auditor and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate certification exams
  • Customized instruction in solar, wind, geothermal, and related tax credits and incentives
  • Advanced instruction in MS Office and customer relationship management applications, in addition to sales and customer relations skills required by green energy employers
  • 14 weeks -- Classes run Mon. – Fri. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Field training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Eligibility

  • Age 18 or older
  • U.S. citizenship or Green Card, High school or GED education

Tuition Funding

  • Title 1 Workforce Investment Act voucher, Food Stamps, Co-pay, Self-pay, Mass. Rehabilitation Commission, Veterans Benefits, National Emergency Grant, The Neighborhood Jobs Trust, Workman’s Insurance Compensation, Employer-sponsored severance.

ABLE Skills2Work

ABLE Skills2Work provides 12 weeks of classroom-based, instructor-led training in Microsoft Office and Windows. Classroom training, including extensive job search support and emphasis on job hunting in the Internet age, is followed by a six-week internship with a local employer.

Program Description

  • In-depth instruction in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, 2010 and Outlook 2010), QuickBooks, and Medical Terminology
  • Emphasis on building strong communications and customer relations skills
  • One (or more) screening interviews for open positions with area employers
  • Twelve weeks of classes, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Six-week internship to apply newly acquired skills in a work setting

Eligibility

  • Age 18 or older; U.S. Work Authorization; High school diploma or GED
  • MS Office knowledge, genuine interest/aptitude for customer relations work

Tuition Funding

ABLE Beginnings 

Designed for job seekers with limited computer knowledge, ABLE Beginnings is a six-week, classroom-based program providing job seekers with the basic skills needed to conduct an effective job search. It gives job seekers the technology skills and self-confidence needed to compete aggressively in today’s job market.

Program Description

  • Basic skills instruction in navigating the internet, using email, keyboarding, MS Word, Excel, data entry, interviewing, and mastery of on-line applications
  • Intro to social media for job hunting
  • Job search support; resume and cover letter writing
  • Six-week course, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Eligibility

  • Age 18 or older
  • US citizenship or Green Card
  • Score 7th grade or higher on TABE reading and mathematics skills test
  • Basic internet navigation skills

Tuition 

  • $2,750 per student
  • Financial assistance may be available.

Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 Pro

Introduction to QuickBooks is a four-week training program offering classroom instruction in the basics of QuickBooks. The course enables both jobless and currently employed individuals familiar with accounting and bookkeeping to better compete for and secure entry-level bookkeeping and accounts payable/receivable positions.

Program Description

  • Covers broad range of QuickBooks functions, such as recording sales data, processing invoices and payments, preparing deposits, setting up inventory, managing sales tax payments, and more.
  • Hands-on instruction by Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor
  • Low instructor/student ratio
  • State-of-the-art computer lab with workstation assigned to each student
  • Certification from Operation A.B.L.E. for students completing the course and passing the final exam.

Eligibility

  • Age 18 and older
  • Knowledge of accounting terminology
  • Computer navigation and keyboard skills

Tuition Funding

  • Private pay, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, SNAP (Food Stamps) Employment and Training Program

Medical Terminology 

This course provides job seekers with a solid foundation in the language of medicine. When combined with administrative and other skills, job seekers will be uniquely qualified to apply for a variety of positions in the healthcare industry.

Program Description

  • Learn the basic design of medical terminology
  • Learn the meanings of 350 Greek and Latin word elements
  • Learn how to easily remember those elements and
  • How to use them to interpret complex medical terms

Eligibility

  • Age 18 or older
  • Basic Internet navigation skills

Senior Community Service Employment Program


The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, provides a stipend to eligible low-income individuals age 55 and older as they learn new skills and gain work experience leading to meaningful employment.

 

Program Description

  • Train on-the-job, 20 hours per week, in a local non-profit or government agency
  • Receive an $8.00 per hour stipend
  • Develop skills to transition to unsubsidized employment
  • Receive ongoing job search assistance  

Eligibility Requirements

  • Qualifying level of income
  • Age 55 or older
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Live in Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, or Worcester Counties

 

Cost

  • No cost to the participant 
  • Funding provided by the U.S. Department of Labor
